We use Green Stick compound as it can be heated and is malleable and used to record the sulcus in detail which is not possible with pink acrylic. We have the base as pink acrylic but the borders are recorded with Green stick compound. Anhad Singh January 6, 2012 Sir I’m having pericoronitis and my doctor is asking me to remove the wisdom tooth for permanent relief. Is it OK to do or I can do anything else to heal it. My tissue over that tooth is having swelling and is paining very much. Please tell me the solution. Thanks Varun January 6, 2012 The permanent treatment is to remove the Wisdom tooth, treating just pericoronitis will not be a permanent solution as it will reoccur. Bhoomika January 6, 2012 Hello Mr. Varun! I am Bhoomika. I have written NEET UG in 2017. But the thing is that I may not get qualified for the MBBS courses. And also I was Having an interest in dentistry from the beginning too. So I wanted to know if Dentistry has scope in India and particularly Karnataka. if at all we can go abroad can u please tell me the path how I can go abroad with a dentistry degree form India….Please do the needful Varun January 6, 2012 Hi Bhoomika, it is a matter of debate about the scope in Dentistry. If you are from a Dental family with someone in your family being a Dentist it is a bit easier for you to settle down. The another aspect being money, it takes a lot (min of 10 lakhs) to set up a decent Dental clinic. The other thing being patience. If you work in a Dental Clinic you are not paid great salaries (depends on the clinic which you are working in) which are not at par with software employees but much lower. Now coming to going abroad, after you complete your BDS, you need to clear NBDE Part 1 & 2 examinations by going to the US to be accepted as a Dentist in the USA. The same holds true for CANADA. After clearing the Examinations, you need to complete a course of 2 years to get your DDS degree (course fees will be Rs. 1 Crore INR to Rs. 1.5 Crore) which will let you practice in any state in the US. It is not that I am trying to scare you, but this is the ground reality about the future of a Dental Graduate in India and someone from Karnataka. If you want to practice, setting up a clinic in the hear of City is not advisable as it is saturated and if you are from some town it would be advisable to set up your practice there which has more future. Here are the books which are useful for preparing NBDE Part 1 – http://www.juniordentist.com/books-for-nbde-part-1-subject-wise-and-question-banks.html Pasawat January 6, 2012 I would like to know how long we must wait until we can make second cast from addition silicone (Silagum to be specific)? Varun January 6, 2012 Hi Pasawat, To prevent Dimensional changes the second cast should be poured within 30 minutes to prevent dimensional changes. Dimensional changes have been observed after 30 minutes of taking impression in addition silicone material so it is advisable to pour a cast within 30 minutes after taking the impression. Dr. Shriram Pandit January 6, 2012 Can I use Xylocaine 2% with Adrenaline 1:200000 instead of 1:80000? What will be the drawback of using 1:200000? Sudhakar January 6, 2012 My general dentist, to whom I have gone for many years, recently told me ALL of my teeth have calcified root canals. He said that over time I could expect discoloration and weakening/decay of my teeth. When I asked if there was a recommended treatment, he said to do nothing and hope for the best. Another dentist suggested getting either crowns or veneers on all of the teeth that can be easily seen. I’d very much appreciate your suggestions. Shouldn’t this have been detected earlier? What can be done at this time to preserve my teeth and their appearance? I am middle aged, in excellent health, and have no dental problems other than this. st January 6, 2012 I have a wisdom tooth on the left lower side and is only half open and half covered, Dr has done a filling with gic material but it is paining more what to do Varun January 6, 2012 If you are not having any discoloration on your teeth and there is no problem it is not advised to mess with the teeth. The teeth which become sensitive, discolor or chip off need to be attended. My suggestion is not to go ahead with Crown or Veneers until you see any discoloration or problem with the teeth. When you go ahead with Crown or veneers, sound tooth structure needs to be trimmed which is not wise if the tooth is healthy. Varun January 6, 2012 One of the simplest reasons is, that if we extract the lower teeth before upper teeth, the socket will be open and while extracting the upper teeth we might unknowingly send some infected particles into the sockets resulting in cross infection. So if you extract the upper tooth, the contamination is not possible as gravity will be on our side. You need to make the patient aware of the situation and that the ridge is not enough to get good retention. Use a mirror to show how his/her ridge is and show some pictures of how a normal ridge should be to get good retention. Repent January 6, 2012 Thank you so much Teresa Chambers January 6, 2012 Hi there, I would like to use some of the images available on google for a university assignment of tongue function. Varun January 6, 2012 Sure go ahead Shriya January 6, 2012 Hello Dr. Varun, I recently appeared for the NEET MDS 2018 exams, and secured a decent rank, I would like to know, in your suggestion, the most trending or upcoming branch that could be chosen for pursuing masters, like, for example, earlier it was believed that Orthodontics is an upcoming branch, but it seems to be facing some saturation off late because of an increase in orthodontists. What is the scope of Pedodontics in India, currently? Varun January 6, 2012 Frankly speaking all departments are saturated at this point in India, so its better that you take any clinical department and choose the one which you fell you can sustain life long and be happy doing that. Pedodontics is a very good dept if you are interested in it as it covers multiple branches – Endodontics, Surgery, Perio etc. The theory of which can be used in general practice as well.
